Will Using The Wrong Kind Of Gas In My Car Cause Serious Problems?

i drive an 01 toyota celica, ive had it for about 1 year 3 months and i didnt realize until someone pointed it out to me about 6 months ago that i was using regular gas when the sticker says premium only. ive still continued to use regular gas [gas is expensive and i dont make much] but will doing this cause serious problems, such as blowing my engine or something? thanks!

The one thing i know is gas.
Running a higher oct. is better for some cars. Racecars, built motors with a bunch of h/p, and older motors. The higher oct, the slower the fuel will burn. Running an lower oct in your car will not hurt anything.
People think that the higher oct the gas is then more power you get, and that is wrong. The most powerful gas is 87 oct.
no it won’t be a problem, they recommend that it should be use because the lower grades of gas have a higher chance of “knocking”
knocking happens when the gas ignites before it is suppose to.
it usually happens under acceleration
BUT this is only a problem if you live near sea level since there is more oxygen down there.
If you live in states where the elevation is higher then it isn’t a problem. My car also recommends premium but has never knocked using regular.
If the car manufacture says to use premium that is what you need to use. There isn’t that much a difference in price. It might cost you a few extra bucks at the pump. It’s cheaper than paying for big repairs later.
yes.
different fuels such as gasoline, ethanol, diesel, biodiesel, etc all have different energy content, or, the amount of heat/energy emitted upon burning. Certain engines are designed for different things.
The premium gas is only in the octane. If your car is running fine on the lower grade fuel do not worry about it.
If you do start running the higher octance fuel you should get a tune up before hand.
unless you are high compression, turbo charged, supercharged then no you don’t need the higher octane. all the higher octane does is prevent pre-detonation which can happen to the above engines. I wouldn’t change to the higher octane unless you are experiencing pinging(a slight knocking noise under hard acceleration)
i dont think so,i drive a 07 Honda accord and i use regular gas and no problem.
the answer you are looking for when useing regular gas is NO. it will not hurt anything, what you should do if you are going to use regular gas is …. use a fuel injector cleaner..
i know over here in Cleveland, Ohio .. – Marathon – puts a cleaner into thier gas.. the only difference when you’re at the pump is a higher octane it burns cleaner.. which means less carbon build up in your engine.. fuel injector cleaner is ok to use, just remember to put some into your vehicle EVERYTIME you change your oil..
p.s. it’s a fluid you can buy at any autoparts store, and most gas stations
yes it would be better but not necesary
I drive a TL Type-S, recommended premium. I bought it new and have always used regular. I have 74,000 miles on my car now and it runs great. It passed NJ inspection, gets regular service and checks by professional mechanics… everything is great! Plugs have never been changed and my current highway mileage is 27mpg. You don’t need high-test gas, unless you are professionally racing or have modifications made to you engine for more horsepower.
