i have a 1994 ford explorer and whenever i hit the brakes the brake light comes on. my brake fluid level is good and the parking brake is never on. so what could that mean?

Bad brake cylinder or worn brakes.Look for wet spot on back of rim/tire or pull wheels off to check them.

the brake switch could be faulty, but the most likey cause is the float in the fluid reservoir is stuck if you tap the top of the reservoir is should wiggle its self free

vac um boost leakage on the fi er wall there is a large round object thy call a vac um boost module and the diagram leaks and yours is hard to find by your self at least it is for me for i have one he ac of a time trying to steep on brake peddle and stand close en off to booster with car running and LSSN for leak legs just dint bend that way or that long

u need new brakes or maybe i a burn sensor

there should be a sensor by the master cylinder that warns you when the master cylinder is low, maybe it,s bad.

That’s the problem; nobody knows for sure. IMHO the brake system is one of those things you don’t screw around with if it starts telling you there’s a problem (the light comes on). If it were my truck, and I didn’t have the luxury of driving another car while I tried to figure out what’s wrong, I would bring it to either the dealer or a good, highly recommeded independent shop and have them evaluate the brake system for you and make the needed repairs and service.

Do you really want to find out on some dark night, trucking along at 75mph on the freeway, and having to make an abrupt, hard slow down that the little red light is telling you you’re S.O.L?

The brake indicator on your 1994 Ford Explorer light on when brake hitted. The indicator could be inform that the pad is getting thick or worn, or could be there is a like in the brake system. There is a sensor on the caliper to let driver know about worn pad, and pressure sensor to know leaking. For pad, needed to check. For leaking, check is there dirty of oil on the tyre, black color because got mixed with dirt. For booster, if leaking, sound of wind will heard when pedal is pressed even if heard directly from engine side; and the pedal will a bit loosen to brake up but not going to floor.

    master cylinder is bad

In order to improve brake safety, the front and rear brake hydraulic systems are separate. If one fails, the other can still provide braking. The separate systems include an equal pressure sensing unit that causes that red light to glow when there is unequal hydraulic pressure!.
In your case, that could mean an hydraulic or mechanical failure
The hydraulic failure would be a fluid leak. The mechanical failure could be that either the front or rear brake pads have worn excessively!

Have an experienced brake repair person determine which it is and arrange for repair ASAP. That red light means DANGER!
