How much car scratch do you allow at shopping center parking?

Hi, I’ve been living in near-Houston for 8 years and have a question.
My wife often gets scratches on her car at shopping center (like wal-mart) parking. The last one she had was half inch x 1/4″ with a dent, taking off the clear coat completely. She saw a woman loading stuff next to her but did not see the moment she made the scratch so came back home without saying anything. Taking her car to body shop, it cost $200 + 80$ rental car for the entire door re-painting. I would not care if it were my car but since this is my wife’s one, I had it fixed.
My Question to you is
“How much scratch do you tolerate at parking ? Do you have any good strategy to ask the repair cost ?” We do defensive parking always (not to park congested area, do not park bad condition car etc) so please do not talk about it.

I scraped my car on a column in a parking garage, causing scrape marks above the reer wheel? How costly is it?

I want to get it fixed in order to kinda “erase” the mistake I made.. Its a white volvo s40 which makes the damage barely noticeable; but there are some black marks and scrapes that groove into the car to a width of about 2 feet curving around the reer wheel. How much would it cost to get it repaired? What would need to be done to repair it?

I left my car at the metro parking lot to go to work, and when I came back, there was a dent and a long scratch going from the back door to the front passenger door.

The light goes on and off. Has been off recently but sometimes when going over bumps it will come back on. I have a 2001 accord. A neighbor told me he saw someone hit my car while parking. i always engage my parking brake and it was disengaged when I first noticed this. How can I fix this?

It come on for no rhyme or reason. Doesn’t matter if it’s raining, dry, I’m driving or stopped. Obviously the parking brake is not on at all. Nothing I do makes it go away or prevents it from turning on.

My scantool shows no codes even when the brake light is on.

Is this a bad sensor? Maybe a problem with the computer?

Should I take it to the dealer, or would an independent shop be able to diagnose and fix this?
