How much does it cost to repair a big car dent?
I own a 2005 Mazda Mazda3 and recently got huge dent on the side of the rear passenger door. I have full coverage from geico but do not wish to go through them. I don’t exactly know how i got the dent…I decided to park in the back of the apartment complex and when i returned to my car the next day, there it was….a huge dent. Here are some pictures:
I dented my car rear passenger side door on accident while driving in a parking garage by taking a right turn too tightly. The guy who i hit and I decided the damage was too minimal to call the police or anything like that, but after closer inspection to the dent, i decided that i want to fix it. (the dent bothers the hell out of me). So, my question is how to fix the dent? i’ve already gotten most of it out, but there are some areas that i don’t think i could personally fix. Should I notify my insurance company and if i do, would my rates increase? Should I go to a body repair shop and pay it from my pockets? How much do you think it would cost to repair that dent? (i don’t know how much my deductible is, i’ll have to check.) I drive a 2009 Hyundai Elantra. Here are several pictures of the dent, i’ve cleaned it, dried it, and gotten most of it out.
So I’ve got a dent just above one of the wheels. It’s about 30cm wide and there is no damage to the paintwork at all. It’s not very deep and isn’t really that bad.
Out of curiosity I went to the body shop this morning and got a quote for £250 – to be honest I’m shocked at how expensive that is to get a little dent fixed! Is this a fair price to pay? or am I about to be ripped off?
I’m thinking about just leaving it and not bothering trying to fix it.
I realise that this is very veigue and you can’t actully see the damage to asses it propperly, but as you can probably tell I know nothing about car repairs so any opinions/experience would be appreciated.

A couple weeks ago I was out bike riding, and when i came back to the car someone had parked next to me. I didn’t think much about it and carefully held my bike between our two cars, opened my back seat door to put my hemet in- and accidentally lost my grip on my bike, resulting in a horrifying metal on plastic sound as my bike hit the car next to me. After freaking out a bit I saw that the pedal/handlebar together had left an about 2 cm long scratch (no dent along with it, it just scratched the top coat i think) on the upper left quadrant of the door, and an about nickel to quarter sized dent (the impression from the dent is REALLY slight, very hard to see by just glancing at it) on about the middle of door. The car itself is a 2006, Chevy Aveo. It is a TINY little car and the damage was on one door only. She just sent the estimate to have it repaired, and I was shocked to read an estimate of 1300 dollars!!! For a small scratch, and small dent, and on a small car none the less. I understand that paint has to be matched and whatnot, but it is just me that thinks this estimate is ridiculously high?? In the estimate they were talking about having to repaint the front door and the back side panel as well to match the paint, even though the dent is in the middle of the door. If there is anyone out there that knows a bit about cars and repair, i would be glad to hear from you!! Thank you!
And i would just like to say thank you to SoCal for saying what I was going to. I appreciate all input and do not think the first two answers were misinformed- and don’t appreciate answers that construe a derogatory tone. I am just looking for insight into car repair- not to feel even more foolish about my mistake. I realize it was a dumb move, and never intend to repeat it. And yes, I intend to pay for the damage- as it wasn’t by car that hit hers, it was my bike, so it will not be covered by insurance. Thank you for your answers.

We had a bad storm today in Kansas and our car got hail damage on the hood, trunk, roof and a few on the drivers side. They range in sizes up to a quarter. I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu that is paid in full, I have a 500 dollar deductible and am wondering if it is even worth calling my insurance company. The paint isn’t chipped, that I can tell. But the dents are there. Any ideas how much it costs to repair them, Im guessing there’s around 50 dents maybe more. I know its impossible to give me an exact answer but Im just wondering what the cost is aprox.
Rather than paying for an expensive Toyota Prius bumper replacement after an unpleasant encounter with a parking lot pole, we decide to attempt the do-it-yourself, armed only with a can of solvent, two hair dryers, and some touch-up paint. Half of the fun is listening to Dad’s comments! Your mileage may vary! We were lucky that even though the dent was huge, it was easy to access the other side of it to push against.
