Again, on the little berm I found, you can see the reason why one would need some sort of limited slip differential on at least the rear axle of a (ahem!) 4-wheel drive vehicle when you really articulate the axles and cause opposite corner wheels to unload. Whilst in flat sand where this car is best this problem never really shows itself due to equal wheel loading, I see if I plan on doing stuff like this I will have to get an Auburn limited slip as I have on the Vista Cruiser fitted to this car as well. Note how the left rear wheel slips and grabs at the start of the movie, this is due to the front and rear axles being ‘locked’ in low range, a reason to not use a locked low range on bare pavement for long periods. The drive train winds up and things can then break.
So I have a 1997 Honda Civic Ex coupe. First of all, does this car have abs? I read on from other answers that to look for an abs light on the panel, I do not see one. So I am guessing it does not have abs brakes??? Anyway, My next question is, I was wondering what is the cheapest way to repair axles….
should i take it to a mechanic? or should i buy the axles online, then take it to a mechanic??
do i need some kind of puller to pop them out. i was putting brakes on and found out the bearings are shot. the axle moves about 1/4 in with just my hands.
I have a 1986 dodge w150 that i use mainly for mudding and climbin. I want to be able to put some heavier axles under my truck and possibly put a locker in them.
Does anyone know if these are positrack or limited slip?
Im mocking up a car with a ford 9 inch rear, and only have the axles, and full brake setup so far. Is it possible/ ok to put this all together without the third member installed to hold the inside end of the axles in place? I would like to roll it around without the 3rd member, but if not than ill have to buy one. please help.
Dana 30 on the front and a AMC 20 on the
rear.http://www.jeeptech.com/axle/amc20.html
Sorry mybuttstinks but Dana 35s were not stock on a 1980 cj5.http://www.jeepforum.com/wiki/index.php/…
A couple of things to consider.
1. which side is the differential on…..front axle
2. is the differential centered…………rear axle
Regarding those issues, Do they match up with your transfer case (#1) and rear tranny output (#2).
3. The cj5 uses axles that are not very wide. Most Ford trucks are much wider. The axles will need to be narrowed.
My suggestion……..DANA 44 axles that are built for the cj7, they are a bit wider, known as wide track, 1982-86 models. another option is using the AMC 20 rear, with solid one piece axles by Moser or another well know company. The 20 is a solid unit when the two piece axles are replaced by one piece axles.
Sometimes a bit hard to find but most jeepers would agree that jeep parts are the best option.
im looking for low priced lockers for my 1983 jeep Cj5 and i have AMC 20 rear axles, i can’t seem to find any for under $325…. if you have any suggestions please email me
