How much money would it cost to take a dodge truck srt-10 motor out and put it in a 4×4 dodge truck?

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 that is 4×4. I want to take the v-10 out of their dodge srt-10 truck and put it in mine. i also want to put the transmission and driveline out. Basically i want to custom make a 4×4 srt-10. i am highly qualified to do this sort of thing since i have been working at a mechanics shop for 10 years. How much would this cost??

How much… too hard to say.

I recommend going to Advance Adaptors website and pricing out the required pieces. Also, you must insure the new tranny will bolt up to the tranfercase. You will most likely need different drive-line length’s and I would recommend a heavier duty U-joint. Add in the cost’s of a custom exhaust and miscellaneous other costs.

To save a lot of money… the greatest cost would be in the labour charge… Do it yourself.

PS. Expect at least a month with no truck… until you iron out all the little details you will run across.

I HATE TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE BUT I HAVE TO,FIRST OF ALL IF YOU COULD AFFORD TO BUY EVERYTHING THAT’S NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS CONVERSION,HAVE SOMEBODY DO IT.YOUR TEN YEARS OF WORKING ON CARS MAY NOT BE ENOUGH.HERE IS THE BRAKE DOWN,COST OF ENGINE ALONE 18K,COST OF TRANS 5K,COST OF NEW DANA 60 3K,COST OF NEW SUSPENSION 4K,COST OF BRAKE UPGRADES 4K,ENGINE WIRING HARNESS ABOUT 3K ALSO,NEW PCM $1200.COST OF DRIVE SHAFT 5OO BILLS,ACCESORIES NEEDED FOR ALL THIS UPGRADE UNKNOWN.SO NOW THAT YOU HAVE AN IDEA WHAT HE PARTS COST IT WOULD BE BETTER TO BUY A USED SRT 10 TRUCK. HOPE THIS IS ENOUGH INFO FOR NOW.

This is the worst idea I’ve heard in a long time.

You’d be better off simply modifying your existing V-8 and then beefing up the tranny and drive line.

well I think its like 15,000 for the V-10(brand new), and then figure another 4-5,000 for a beefed up tranny, plus wiring, computer, and whatever else, you’d be better off buying a crate motor and dropping that in instead of doing the v-10. Good luck with it though, I would rather take all that money and build up my own engine which would be a hell of a lot better than dropping in the v-10 for the same cost. or a hell of a lot cheaper.

well you save most of your money by getting it out of a what I would think a wrecked SRT-10. so you have the engine and PCM and wiring harness. whats going to kill you is your trucks 4×4 and beings you want the 4×4 to still function thats whats really going to cost. if it was a 2wd it would be a simple pull out the old engine and drop in the new. we everything would bolt right up. good luck and its possible. seen viper V-10 in a dakota with the tranny and rear end and also the rims.

why do you want to do that? you can only go so fast in 4wd.
