cd junk bot My CD junkbot was designed to be a three wheeled car. It is made of a dc motor, body faceplate, laser assembly guide rod, straw, Lego wheels, I/O switch, and 2 9volt batteries. First is the body. I used the face plate off of the CD drive to be used as a chassis. This is what I attached all of my pieces to using hot glue. Next is the dc motor. I salvaged this motor out of the laser assembly, this motor is what made the laser eye move back and forth to read the disk. I mounted it using hot glue and I attached the wires using solder. Next is the laser assembly guide rod. This was used to be a rear axel. I attached the rear axel using a gear that had a matching inside diameter as the rod and I used pliers to cut off plastic. Next I used the straw to prevent the wheels from moving in and jamming. I just used an old McDonalds straw. Then the Lego wheels. These where old and just laying around waiting to be used. I attached them using hot glue as well. Next is the on off switch I stole out of an old play station 1 that was broken and I decided to hack into. I de-solderd it from its original board and spliced it into my circuit. Lastly are the two 9volt batteries. I did not have any 9 volt snaps so I was forced to solder the wires directly on. I wired the batteries in series (+-+-) to achieve 18 volts. Over all this was a fun project consisting of deconstruction of a junked CD drive and turning it into something that moves.

Une elctolyse c’est un moyen de casser la molécule d’eau et donc pour chaque molécule d’h2o cassé on récupère 2 atome d’hydrogène et un atome d’oxygène. Pour casser cette molécule d’eau il faut : un transformateur bien puissant (12 volts 5 A pour nous (60 Watts , 60 VA)). On relie la borne plus à une plaque de métal de grande surface qui ne s’oxyde pas de préférence. La borne moins quand a elle on la reli eà une vis (en zinc de préférence) insérée dansun canaliseur de gaz (pour pouvoir faire une flamme continuelle avec l’h2). On plonge le tout dans de l’eau biensur. Il faut que cette eau soit fortement salée pour que les électrons circulent dedans. Dès qu’on branche le transfo les électrodes bullent. Une bonne partie de nos 60 watts se transforme en cette énergie chimique (le reste se perd en chaleur car l’eau chauffe vite). d’un coté l’o2 et de l’autre l’h2. On allume l’h2 avec un arc électrique ou un briquet, la on entend une petite détonation et si l’expérience a été bien réalisé (ne désepérez pas, personne ne nous a aidé et on a finit par réeussir^^)une petite flamme d’h2 va subsister !!! tres impressionant. Cette flamme est jaune orangée et particulièrement chaude ! l’équation chimiqe de sa combustion est : deux molécule d’h2 (car les atomes d’hydrogène restent par paire) et une molécule d’o2 deviennent deux …

Did it in less than an hour on a sunday afternoon. Really cool Low-Fi sound that’s nice on stage or in the studio.
