You might just need the rotor to be turned to be sure the surface is good. If they are badly warped or worn, you need to have them replaced.

My uncle is not a mechanic but has changed brake pads on my moms, friends and other people that we know so he pretty much knows what he is doing. I want to ask him to change mines to save a little money.
Is there anything special that is required when changing brake pads on a 02 volvo s60 (non turbo)
what would be the best brake pads to go with at a Autozone?
Please let me know any helpful information i dont want to save money if there is a chance he can mess my car up. Different auto shops have told me since its a german car it has special needs, so i want to make sure before i ask my uncle to do this for me.

I think the 2001 Volvo S40 has disc brakes, and without really looking at it a mechanic guessed it would cost 500 bucks to replace the pads on all 4 wheels. Is this about right, or what? Also, is this a one hour job, or a leave the car for a day job?

I live in Dubai and I need new brake pads. For two front brake pads, they charge 700 dirhams which is around 180 or so American dollars. Mercedes charges 400 for all four pads. Volvo is charging like crazy. Anybody know where I can get cheap pads but are authentic because that is just highway robbery and they know they can get away with it. But I also heard that the BMW 5 series brake pads are almost exactly the same except for the little metal piece on the back of the Volvo pads.
